Announcing the Gidden Media & Stage 32 Romantic Comedy Contest Winner

Good morning Stage 32 Fam! Today is the big day! Birds are chirping! Bells are ringing! Someone is getting twirled in a park somewhere! And at Stage 32, we're excited to announce the winner of the Gidden Media & Stage 32 Romantic Comedy Contest!
We all love romantic comedies because they unlock the mysteries of relationships and help us settle the age old debate, "can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em." Our judges enjoyed reading the hundreds of entries from around the world. When superhero flicks dominate the box office, it's refreshing to have romantic comedies makes such a resurgence in the market.
The competition was tough and it was difficult to choose a winner from the finalists. Without further ado, Gidden Media and Stage 32 present the winner of the Romantic Comedy Contest!
Grand Prize Winner

written by Julie Ann Cross
Julie will receive $7,500 and go into a development incubator led by Amy Baer (My Best Friend's Wedding, Something's Gotta Give) and Chris Ceccotti and Sissy Denkova from the development team.
Special Distinction for Emerging Rom-Com Voice
DIRTY WORDS
written by Rachel Kempf
Amy Baer, President of Gidden Media and Board President of Women in Film
"We are excited to announce that VAGIC by Julie Cross is the WINNER of the Gidden Media/Stage 32 Romantic Comedy Contest! Julie has written an R-rated, laugh-out-loud, feminist romantic comedy in which the heroine learns to "own" her power - romantically, professionally... and sexually! It's a very surprising premise and a fresh, modern spin on the romcom genre. Stage 32's very own Amanda Toney and Nick Assunto did an incredible job setting up the contest, along with an intricate system of dedicated readers. Also, shout out to Rachel Kempf for her script DIRTY WORDS, which we have awarded 'Special Distinction for Emerging Voice.' It's a unique and entertaining script that has a dry, incisive tone and an edgy wit. Congrats Julie & Rachel, and thank you to everyone who participated."
And, a special congratulations goes out to all of our finalists. We will be sending out their loglines to over 500 development executives, producers, managers and agents!
