Coffee & Content: Elevate Your Project with Sound Design

Happy Sunday Creative Army!

Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee, and let's dive in.

Today, we're looking at the impact sound design has on a film. Everything you hear in a film adds to its ability to draw in the audience and keep them invested in what happens. And yet, sound design is also an area where many filmmakers don't invest as much as others, creating a missed opportunity to elevate your story. So, let's take a look at how you can take your film, pilot, or short film to a new level with sound design.

First up, StudioBinder shows us how you can use sound to create an immersive experience that transports the audience to a wholly original world by studying the techniques used in Denis Villeneuve's DUNE. You will be amazed by how simple some of the items and techniques are used for various sounds and how combining them correctly creates something completely new.

Next, Thomas Flight examines Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN and how the film uses to create a different perspective for the audience. They do this by zero-ing by centering on how rain is used throughout the film. This one environmental factor has a multitude of different impacts depending on the scene, and yet, the rain seldom stops. This shows you how a singular sound element can have distinctive effects that are imperative to the viewers' experience.

Lastly, we can't get enough of the Instagram account Reel Foley Sound. Sanaa Kelley is a foley artist who creates sound effects for your favorite films and television shows. You'll be surprised by the unexpected objects used to create ordinary sounds.
