Coffee & Content - How Directors Work with Actors & Production Designer Breaks Down Movie Mansions

Happy Sunday Creative Army!
Here's hoping you had a happy, healthy, and creative week. What is your coffee of choice today? I'm rocking Counter Culture's Big Trouble roast this morning. Let's dive in, shall we?
First up, the folks over at The Discarded Image have compiled a top-notch list of directors, and how they have worked with actors throughout their careers. This video essay dives into the work of Alfred Hitchcock, Paul Thomas Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, David Fincher, Clint Eastwood, and Terrence Malick. The Director/Actor relationship is essential to the success of a film, and many different approaches are addressed in this video. You will see examples from The Shining, The Social Network, Million Dollar Baby, There Will Be Blood, and more.
Next up, Vanity Fair sat down with production designer Jon Hutman (The House with a Clock in its Walls, What Women Want, Coyote Ugly) to talk about movie mansions. Jon dives into the production design of You've Got Mail, Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, Gone Girl, The Royal Tenenbaums, and more. One of the most wonderful things about filmmaking is collaboration - and production design plays a massive role in many other elements of a movie. In this video, Jon illustrates how a character's home defines them, and the overall story.
