Coffee & Content: In Praise of Great Exposition & Pitching Experiences

Happy Sunday, Creative Army!

Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee, and let's dive in.

First up, in this video essay by Thomas Flight, he’s breaking down the elements that make for great exposition in your dialogue. Exposition in film and TV has a mostly bad reputation, but it’s really just another tool in the writer's toolbox. This video examines examples of exposition, discusses common misunderstandings of the “show don’t tell” philosophy, and highlights the importance of subtext.

I also want to take some time today to discuss pitching. I’ve had a number of memorable pitching experiences over the years, but there are two that always stick with me. On the same day, I managed to have a terrible pitch and a fantastic pitch within an hour of each other. That experience taught me a lot about the importance of seizing every opportunity, being prepared, and never giving up. You can learn more in this video!

Let me know in the comments below, what you've learned from your best and worst pitching experiences.
