Coffee & Content: Redefining What's Possible & What Matters

Coffee & Content: Redefining What's Possible & What Matters

Happy Sunday, Creative Army!
Have you had a creative weekend so far? Whether you’ve been writing, filming, editing, or simply dreaming up your next big idea, I’ve got some inspiring content to fuel your passion and keep you moving forward. So grab your coffee, and let’s dive in.
First up, we’re going behind the scenes of one of the most ambitious productions of the year: F1: The Movie.
This incredible video from SonyCine takes you under the hood (literally) with director Joseph Kosinski, Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda, ASC, and 1st AC Dan Ming as they share how they worked directly with Sony’s engineering team to create a custom full-frame cinema camera that could survive the G-forces, heat, and vibration of a Formula 1 race car, without sacrificing cinematic quality.
We’re talking about a real-time collaboration between filmmakers and engineers to design a lightweight, robust camera that brought a bold vision to life. This is what happens when technology meets storytelling at the highest level, and it’s a masterclass in pushing the limits of what’s possible in filmmaking.
Next, I want to share a question I received during my most recent Ask Me Anything event: “Does age matter when selling a script?”
The answer is no. You have to remember that when your script lands on somebody’s desk, there’s nothing on it that says how old you are. Or what you look like. There is just the story. And at the end of the day, these executives have one job.
For reps, it’s: Can I sell this project? Can I work with this writer to create more material I can take to market?
For producers, financiers, and execs: Is there a path to profitability?
That’s it. So if you simplify all of that, all the fears go away. We have enough shit weighing on us as artists, we don’t need to carry unnecessary ones too. Write the best script you can. Tell a great story with roles actors want to play. Make it undeniable that it can sell in today’s market. That’s your only job: write something that matters and be honest with yourself about where it fits.
What’s one story idea you’ve been sitting on because you felt like you weren’t “ready” or “qualified” to write it yet?
Let’s talk about it in the comments. You never know who might give you the encouragement to finally go for it.
As always, we love sharing inspiration, tools, and insights that help fuel your creative fire. Know someone who would love this content? Share it with them.
