Coffee & Content: What To Do When You Experience Writer’s Block
Happy Sunday, Creative Army!
Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee, and let's dive in.
First up, in this video from best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, he’s sharing tips and tricks for overcoming “writer’s block”. Brandon Sanderson is a prolific NYT best-selling author of high fantasy, science fiction, and young adult novels. As well as the creator of several graphic novels and the co-host of a popular writing podcast, Writing Excuses. He is also well known for finishing Robert Jordan’s popular high-fantasy series, The Wheel of Time. In this video, Brandon discusses what he does to overcome writer’s block, but he also explains that writing processes are specific to the individual and that what works best for one person may not work for another. It’s important to remember that the real trick to writing, is to write.
Whether you’re currently writing a pilot, feature script, novel, outline, graphic novel, blog, social media content, query letters, or all of the above, the fear of “writer’s block” looms large over creators. What do YOU do to overcome or avoid writer’s block? I want to hear all about it in the comments below!
But here’s the thing… I don't really believe in writer’s block. What I believe is that the stress of the creative process, allows you to paint yourself into a corner. I agree with Brandon Sanderson that writing is writing. So if you write yourself into a corner, you can write yourself out of it! Learn more in this video!
