axis of action

The axis of action is the imaginary or invisible line (or axis) that passes through two main subjects filmed in a scene, facing each other. Conventionally, the camera must maintain that left-right relationship or orientation to avoid disorienting or distracting the viewer with a reverse angle shot (although sometimes this effect is intentional).
