Welcome back to TALKING BUSINESS: Insights from the Independent Film Industry, hosted by Stage 32 Thought Leader and Business Consultant, David Zannoni, from Freeway Entertainment and Zannoni Media. In TALKING BUSINESS, David brings you in-depth conversations on the behind-the-scenes of the filmmaking business with industry veterans.

In today’s fifth episode, David is talking with Daniel Castillejos, a leading entertainment lawyer based in Mexico City, who runs his boutique firm Clearance & Copyright. Daniel is an expert on film clearance, and has worked on projects like The Exorcist (2022), Miss Bala and Luis Miguel: The Series.

David and Daniel are Talking Business today about clearance for film & TV projects. Film clearance is all about getting the right permissions for multiple aspects of a film or TV project. This begins with the script and goes all up to worldwide distribution and exploitation. Clearances may be necessary for music, billboards, brands, software, photographs, and names, amongst others, and is a requirement to get EO insurance. Proper clearance means avoiding future issues and liabilities regarding copyright and trademarks.
